German IA Conference
The Conference
The annual German IA Konferenz presents a cross section of current ideas in information architecture, methods and case studies. It is the principal German language IA event, drawing attendees and speakers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland and beyond. In 2010, it will be held in Cologne (Köln) on Friday, May 14 and Saturday, May 15, at the elegant Pullman Cologne Hotel, a venue with ideal conference facilities within walking distance of Cologne’s famous cathedral and the main railway station.
The theme of this year's conference is "Service. Design. Thinking." It looks at a challenge that information architects find themselves facing again and again; how to create benefits that really make a difference to the user, that are perceived as being innovative and thus strengthen the product’s or service provider’s brand in the long term — whilst caught between the conflicting priorities of user needs, client interests, budget limitations and technical constraints.
What is needed to meet this challenge other than creativity and a holistic view? The IA Konferenz 2010 provides insight into the strategies, processes, techniques and methods employed in the attempt to achieve “true” or perhaps subtle innovation, and utilizes case studies to demonstrate the models that can lead to success. Particular emphasis is placed on methods and ideas that are common to the growing field of service design and the methodology of design thinking.
